  • About the Role
  • This role will be based with the Luedey Consultants Inc. (LCI) team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
  • This is an in-person role, working out of the LCI office located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, providing a collaborative workspace for team support and client engagement.
  • As a member of the Consulting team, the Benefits Consultant is the primary point of contact for a segment of our group benefit clients and is responsible for managing those relationships as well as the design, implementation, and ongoing management of their group benefit programs. The Benefits Consultant will also work closely with the Senior Consulting team to support larger and more complex groups as well as our Trustee clients.
  • The Benefits Consultant understands and anticipates our clients’ needs, proactively manages their group benefit plan, anticipates and solves problems, and delivers solutions that meet and exceed their expectations. The role requires excellent client facing skills, problem solving abilities and an energetic, positive attitude.
  • What you'll do as the Benefits Consultant
  • Relationships – you will serve as the primary point of contact and relationship manager for a group of assigned clients.
  • Consulting – through regular communication and proactive support of our clients, you understand their group benefits needs and work with clients to identify goals for their group benefit plans, find solutions and implement programs to achieve their long term goals.
  • Problem Solving – when problems arise, you leverage your knowledge of the issue and connections to the right individuals to efficiently find solutions and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Attend industry conferences and professional development, use these opportunities to stay current on industry knowledge while also networking with current and potential clients as well as industry contacts.
  • Industry Knowledge – leverage your knowledge and expertise in employee benefits, plan designs, legislation and emerging trends to support our clients and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Market Studies – oversee Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for our clients, working with the Benefit Analyst to develop specifications, distribute to vendors, manage communication between all stakeholders and deliver results to our clients.
  • Renewals and Claims Updates – oversee the preparation and delivery of client renewals for an assigned group of clients; regular claims updates to be delivered as touch points throughout the year.
  • Trusteed Plans – working with the Senior Consulting team, you will support a group of Trusteed Plans and the related functions. These include supporting the governance and management of the Plans, facilitating and attending regular Trustee meetings, acting as a facilitator and primary point of contact for their other service providers and more.
  • Support and participate in Business Development activities and help drive growth for LCI and Sterling.
  • Provide guidance for member communication.
  • Assist with special projects and events.
  • Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a consulting or similar role. Group insurance industry experience is an asset, along with experience working with Trustee Benefit Plans.
  • Hold a valid provincial Life Insurance License (LLQP) in good standing with their provincial regulatory body. Alternatively, be willing to obtain a life license as a condition of employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree and / or a combination of education and experience
  • CEBS or GBA designation is an asset
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset
  • Highly organized with strong analytical skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (minimum of an intermediate level for Excel)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team environment

  • Proven track record of sourcing and developing new business opportunities, with the ability to build and expand client relationships.
  • Strong ability to identify market opportunities and translate them into actionable strategies that drive revenue growth.
  • Experience in executing client acquisition initiatives, including networking, presentations, and proposal development.
  • Skilled at collaborating with internal teams to deliver tailored solutions that meet client needs while supporting organizational growth objectives.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach to expanding market presence and strengthening brand reputation.
