- Job Description
- The Associate, Private Equity Portfolio Strategy supports the construction and optimization of CPP Investments’ global private equity portfolio. This role involves conducting financial and market analysis, managing capital allocation and forecasting, and developing tools that enhance portfolio insights and decision-making. The Associate will collaborate across the Private Equity department and the broader organization to support initiatives that drive long-term value creation and portfolio performance.
- Team Summary
- The Portfolio Strategy Group is part of the Private Equity (PE) department at CPP Investments. PE manages $140 billion of net assets and is responsible for the firm’s private equity investments globally. By investing in funds, secondaries, growth equity and directly in private equity, we seek opportunities to build a global, diversified portfolio that will outperform comparable passive public alternatives over the long term. The Portfolio Strategy group within PE seeks to enhance the risk-adjusted returns of the portfolio through portfolio construction techniques that enable the department to meet the targeted return and maximize alpha while balancing investing and developing strong long-term value-add partnerships to the total Fund.
Accountabilities
- Conduct bespoke financial analysis to support strategic portfolio construction decisions
- Synthesize large volumes of data into insights that inform investment pacing, risk allocation, and long-term program design.
- Support capital management forecasting and allocation across short- and long-term horizons.
- Assist in building, automating, and scaling tools and dashboards that support senior leadership in portfolio-shaping decisions.
- Conduct research on private equity markets and industry trends to inform portfolio construction decisions.
- Contribute to presentations for committees and the Board, covering market views, strategy, and other key topics.
- Collaborate across Private Equity and the broader CPP Investments platform to integrate bottom-up investing with top-down portfolio construction.
- Support the adoption and implementation of CEO and CIO priorities within Private Equity
- Contribute to technology-enabled solutions that improve efficiency, forecasting, and decision support across the global PE business.
- Provide ad hoc analytical and strategic support to the Global Senior Managing Director of Private Equity, as required.
- Qualifications
- 3+ years of work experience (e.g., investments, data/analytics, banking, or consulting).
- University degree in a related field
- Understanding of private equity concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated intellectual curiosity.
- Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; experience with SQL, Python, or VBA, and demonstrated interest in applying AI tools to enhance analysis and decision support strongly preferred.
- Ability to manage and interpret large datasets, automate processes, and distill insights into clear recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail; ability to deliver high-quality work across competing deadlines
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and balance shifting priorities.
