Project Overview .................................................................... Hello! I'm a 3D artist with limited coding experience, building an interactive demo to immerse players in a rich fantasy world and its lore. This prototype serves as an engaging tutorial that blends game mechanics with narrative elements, acting as a hybrid between a video game and an interactive website. It's a precursor to a full tabletop RPG (TTRPG) book that will expand on the world's story, characters, and systems. I'm seeking a Unity developer with deep expertise in RPG systems and the Adventure Creator plugin (plus strong general programming skills) to collaborate on this project. We'll start simple: I'd like you to create a template scene based on my sketches and written explanations. Patience is key—I'm eager to learn, so clear guidance on setup and workflows would be greatly appreciated. This is a demo/prototype phase, so the focus is on core functionality with room for iteration. The end goal is a polished, browser-based experience that hooks players and sets the stage for future expansions. Technical Specifications .................................................................... - Game Style: 2.5D (3D characters, baked 2D/3D environments for performance). - Engine: Unity (latest stable version compatible with WebGL). - Platform: WebGL build optimized for browser play. - Device Support: Desktop (PC/Mac) and mobile (phones/tablets), with seamless handling of dynamic screen rotation (vertical to horizontal). Environment Inspiration: - Old-school CRPGs like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment for atmosphere and isometric views. - Flexible camera angles inspired by Final Fantasy IX (e.g., varied perspectives for dynamic scenes—see example backgrounds). - Demo scene ("The Den" town): Primarily isometric view, with options for angle flexibility. Core Deliverables (Immediate Needs) .................................................................... Using Adventure Creator as the foundation (leveraging its built-in systems where possible), please implement the following in a starter template scene: 1) Movement/Control System: = Dual input support: WASD keys + left-click mouse for desktop movement. - Auto-detect mobile devices and switch to virtual joysticks (inspired by responsive controls in the Imagine Island demo). 2) Equipment Loadout Selection: Interface for selecting and equipping items, integrating with inventory. 3) Inventory System: Basic grid-based or list view for managing items, with drag-and-drop functionality. 4) Character Sheet System: Display stats, skills, and progression (e.g., RPG-style attributes like strength, agility). 5) Equipment System: Slot-based equipping (e.g., weapons, armor) with visual updates on the character model. (Reference Adventure Creator's built-in equipment tools.) 6) Dialogue System: Branching conversations with NPC interactions, using Adventure Creator's dialogue features or Yarn Spinner for scripting. (Include a chat log for reference.) 7) UI Design: Retro-inspired, like Fallout 1/2—clean, functional overlays for menus, HUD, and interactions. Ensure responsiveness across devices. 8) Basic Menu System: Options for sound volume, fullscreen toggle, and quit/exit. Provide documentation or a simple walkthrough video explaining the setup, so I can build on this independently. Future-Phase Systems (For Discussion/Expansion) .................................................................... Once the prototype is solid, we could extend to: - Shop mechanics (buy/sell items, currency system—leverage Adventure Creator's shop tools). - Intro billboard cinematic (narrative splash screen). - Save/load system (local storage for WebGL). - Advanced menu system (options, credits). - Quest log (track objectives and story progress). References & Assets .................................................................... - Main Visual Target: pls see attached imgs - UI Design Examples: pls see attached imgs - Adventure Creator Resources: Download from adventurecreator.org/downloads. Useful components: Equipment System, Shop System, Iso Camera, Input System, Chat Log/Yarn Spinner. - WebGL Example: Imagine Island (https://play.imagineisland.game/play/index.html) - great model for mobile/PC compatibility, rotation handling, virtual joysticks, and responsiveness. What I'm Looking For .................................................................... - Proven experience with Unity, Adventure Creator, and RPG mechanics (portfolio samples of similar prototypes a plus). - Strong communication: Explain concepts clearly, as I'll handle art/assets. - Working with the tools that are present within Adventure Creator - Working with milestones and agreeing on a budget for those milestones If this sounds like a fun project, reply with your relevant experience, a quick idea for the template scene, and any questions. Would love to colab!
