  • THE ROLE
  •  
  • The Adoptions Counsellor 1 facilitates the adoption of cats, and small animals, ensuring happy and healthy matches while educating adopters on the animals' needs. This role involves maintaining adoption records, processing payments, and communicating with adopters and potential adopters via phone and email. The Adoptions Counsellor ensures humane treatment of animals and adheres to shelter policies and procedures.

  • KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  
  • Customer Service
  • * Provide excellent customer service, educating adopters on animal care needs, and addressing questions and concerns.
  • * Greet clients and assist with inquiries.
  • * Respond to adoption-related phone calls and emails promptly and professionally.

  • Administration
  • * Review and maintain accurate Shelter Buddy and Adopets records.
  • * Assess adoption applications for completeness and suitability.
  • * Effectively share information with partnering departments using proper forms and protocols.
  • Adoptions
  • * Take photos/videos of animals for adoption profiles.
  • * Schedule meet-and-greets and adoption appointments.
  • * Conduct meet-and-greets between potential adopters and animals, including cats, small animals, birds, and dogs.
  • * Process animal adoptions, donations, lottery ticket sales, and other transactions.
  • * Monitor and report any changes in animal behavior.
  • * Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS

  • * High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • * Six months of reception and/or customer service experience.
  • * Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet use.

  • As the ideal candidate, you are passionate about people, performance, and diversity, all viewed through the lens of animal welfare. You possess exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, and excel at working independently in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, you are confident and comfortable handling animals of various species and temperaments.
  • COMPENSATION & HOURS

  • * Compensation: EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefits package, and a strong work-life balance.
  • * Hours: 40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
